Overcoming our issues IS the work

There was a season when I woke up early went for a nice brisk walk, read my papers, did some little work at home (the compliances) and off in the car to the gym.  After 1 hour of work outs, a chill bath at the gym, I got on to my work clothes went to nearest super market picked up soya milk with some fruits and corn and reached office fresh as a just diced cucumber.

You cant ask for more when it comes to this kind of lifestyle ….. you may call it the ideal.  Thankfully Iam do not have a clock mechanism ticking inside me, I indulge in such ‘ideal’ lifestyle trips occasionally and quickly get into normal life of waking up scratching head, glugging tea, chilling with newspaper and sit hunch backed at the computer.   Then painfully  gather myself and off to work.

Two extreme positions one gets you into office fresh and in the other case you are still sleepy.

After many years of thought on this matter I realized its best to be lazy and yet accomplish all that you have to do.  Lets find out why.

When you work with a fit body you sure do very well but then you start depending on setting up ideal conditions to be able to work, hence when conditions are not perfect you cease to work.  Alternatively when you train yourself to work in any condition you will operate with a larger bandwidth.  You can take up any challenge.

Thats why I like this little saying

“Our issues aren’t something that blocks us from doing our work, overcoming our issues IS the work. – Ariel Grunwald”

Cutting for Stone – Abraham Verghese

Yeah the title may throw up images of a quarry scene, far from it.  A real complex masala story, yet well crafted.  If you are not a doctor by profession you may end up feeling lost or may end up with some half baked knowledge about some common diseases.

The Story

Sister Mary Joseph Praise lands up in Addis Ababa, she is a nun.  Yet she give birth to twins and reaches eternal home.  The twins, Marion (the narrator of the story) and Shiva are brought up by Dr. Ghosh and Dr. Hema who work in the same hospital.  Shiva is action oriented while Marion is a thought guy.  They were co joined at birth and separated by an operation.  Shiva messes up Marion’s love life with his thoughtless action and Marion is distressed.

Now comes the Bollywood Masala.  The main characters converge towards the end in an hospital in America, the usual tear jerker happens.

The author has a dig at corporate hospitals that handle big time patients.. well that was an eye opener for me. The complicated commerce in health care is humorously laid down.

Surely a worthwhile book to handle, moves fast, with some medical jargons as speed breakers may bump you. The secrets that they handle and the letters that pop up at the right time adds to the drama.

Just in case the picture on the cover gives you the wrong message the stone has got nothing to do with getting stoned on weed.. its the text in Hippocratic oath which says – I will not cut for stone.

Little bit of Ethiopian History is thrown it.  Most of the characters are from Madras .. so if you are Madrasi you are sure to find some some historic references to Madras whipping up some nostalgia.

Over all worth the read.. I dont find stars out here.  I will give this book 3.82 stars 🙂

Oh body were is thy sting

Cricketball 02

Two score and ten years of which the Q1 was spent finding my feet.. Q2 using them for play… Q3 using them for work and Q4 will be finding my  feet again…

One wants rewind the years, relive those times.  Hold the red cherry (cricket ball) swing the willow, gallop on the field like calves delivered from the womb.  These thoughts linger now and then. The one sided spirit and the body tourney is played every day.  The body consistently wins the battle.

Last Sunday the ME in ME decided it was time to put this arrogant body in its place and send it for a leather hunt.  So the ME in ME decided to sign up for cricket and play the game full length.

I got to see now pride and arrogance has been the reason for many a mans fall.  My body displayed that same arrogance on that day, a bad loser.  It tightened its grip all over me – my feet, my thighs, my hip, my back and my shoulders came under rapid machine gunfire.

Yet my spirit won the duel on that day.

My body – the bad loser – had his way for the next 3 days, pummeling my joints and trying to break my spirit.

Even as my Spirit tasting blood and flesh, savors its victory holds its banner aloft  as its screams … Oh!!!! body were is thy sting….. and ye flesh were is thy victory

What are we cribbing about?

Is this too much to ask for? I want a phone and I have it immediately.  Way back in 1984 I paid to have a phone installed in my house, after some string pulling I got it after 6 years.

we have surely come a long long way.

I baked a cake at home yesterday…. I dint have to get a certificate from pollution control board.

I decide to handle my life the way I want,  the Ministry of Human Resources cant do fig about it.

I still avail my rations,  I use electricity and water.  The drainage system works, though at times it reminds me of its existence by peeking out its channel.

I ride on the wrong side of a one way street confidently to make people who come the right way scratch their head

I curse the rulers, criticize them right under their nose sitting  beside the TV screen.

I wear whatever I want the Textile Ministry dare not interfere.

I spend mindlessly no one dares to tell me how to do it.. if  Robert Kiyosaki and Sharon Lechter try to come up with their suggestions I shut them out.

The other day I walked into Croma store for checking out an IPad, asked a thousand questions and walked out.

I pick up whatever books I want on Flipkart or Amazon.

I write poop on my blog and people get to read it.

Stepping aside

No more bending backwards or dancing to the pipers tunes. No more of desperation to hear the shuffle  currency. No more working for the sake of it.

Today I did it for the first time. I was trying to talk to a stone. Then suddenly I gently excused myself and walked off. Not the ‘to hell with your assignment attitude’. We are all prone to mistakes. The reasonable thing for intelligent people to do is work judiciously and be able to foresee the consequences and work out methods and tactics to do course corrections.

Hmm!!! Well then not many want to do it. Its work. Lets take one step at a time may also mean lets not think too much. If thinking is not going to be appreciated then its best to step aside and allow the thoughtless to have their way.

Thoughtless to have their way? Yeah there is a risk of them getting punch drunk on success. Well thats life.

The answer will find us (via Word Creates)

Sufi poet wrote "The universe surrenders to a mind that is still". And in order to truly fin The Path, each of us must loosen our minds, and begin from a point of wonder and openness-of being willing to not know. We must receive, before we can begin to give. Thich Nhat Hanh, a monk from the Far East, says the most important gift anyone can give is a "mindful presence". He says how he takes three deep breaths and then says to the moon, "I see you … Read More

Lesson on salesmanship from a fishmonger (via Word Creates)

She carried a basket of 3 varieties of fishes on her head.  Dishevelled hair, screaming her guts off as she paced the road, urging the residents to buy fish.  She picked up the soft voice of a woman who called out for her.  She hardly seemed excited, with the same matter of fact demeanour she turned back and located the source of the call.    She turned to walk toward a sale. Then she heard the gentle voice again enquirin … Read More

Some cupids are dyslexics

Cupids are those cuddly naked angels hanging out in the clouds,  constantly scanning the earth to zero on hapless victims.  Cupids are generally trained to be sharp shooters.  They are well aware of which ventricle in the heart to target.

Its only the simple who look at the heart in the broad sense, accomplished analysts know the complexity of the heart and love. Let me not go into details, lest you are a person with starry eyes and a fluttering heart, get too technically involved replacing emotions with engineering  and loose this wonderful emotion called Love in the process.

Love, as the Greeks beleive, come in 4 broad shades.  No I will no get into that. In lay mans terms let me say, depending on the impact and the size of the arrow shot and the place  where it resides, this feeling of love may just range from wanting to constantly text message your lover or spend your entire time on Photoshop organizing a virtual wedding album.

On Valentines day due to surge in demand the services of all the cupids with a bows and arrows are commandeered. When the shooting is in full swing some of these tiny green horned cupids end up getting confused between a heart and a diamond.  Thats when you see guys  get busy scratching their bank accounts and credit cards to be able to afford that diamond ring. The conspiracy of DeBeers in this cannot be ruled out.

The worst is when some absolutely idiotic cupids, run out of arrows and end up clubbing you on the head.   This is when the victim goes absolutely tizzy thinking about his/her lover.

There are some accomplished cupids who are equipped with sophisticated shooting devices…  you are dead if you are in the line of an artillery  or machine gun fire.  In case you feel that you have been attacked by love bullets, its highly advisable to hit the nearest watering hole and go nuts drinking….. you might have to do this for a prolonged  period of time, till the therapeutic effects of alcohol has its full effect on all your vital organs.

How I fell into the Blog Pit

This is my personal experience as a blogger.  I started blogging some 3 years ago, I was 48 years.   I really dont remember how it all started but the fact is that I somehow tripped and fell into this blog pit.

My life has changed ever since.  I dont have time for myself, now I have to keep reading to sharpen my mind and I have to observe everything keenly to get something out of it so that I can write about it.

I am not a simple guy anymore.  Its a little stressful at times.  To want to evolve into a human being is surely not a simple thing.  Well I sometimes hope that I had been careful with my steps and had not fallen into this blog pit at all.

Its does not end here, I get to know people who are in the same pit for long and have had a shot at writing a book.  The wanting to write a book fever is crawling on to me, this life is very miserable.

If you are not a blogger, writer or a reader.  Be very happy being a simple biological organism walking this earth.  Life is far easier that way. Just watch TV.

Dont ask me why I have filed this under humor category>

The Pyramids in the Democratic star

Pyramids.. were they just tombs?  Yet they seem to occupy such an important place that we now  talk about hierarchies using the Pyramid.  The Bottom of the pyramid obviously has the struggling class and beneath it obviously is the silent (dead)

Tahrir Square..  neatly boxed those Egyptians who were kept in the bottom of the pyramid, and were nearly being pushed further down to give company with the mummies.  It was time to square up perhaps.  The tip of the pyramid had to be  chipped away. The star of freedom and democracy twinkles in the horizon.

Now we need to wait and watch how the square is going to regroup and be able to handle the Star & Crescent and the Star of David that shines  around.  If the pyramids were to symbolize autocratic dictatorial power  the Egyptians now have to deal with 5 or more little pyramids in the democratic star and not forgetting the ‘pentagon‘ in the center.

The party is on in Cairo and the party has to end soon. Challenges come in all shapes, sizes and  spectrum (ask Indian Raja). Regardless of all these bizzare shapes crackling the big round world goes on – well smoothly that is.
