The rape

Listening to TV Today about the rape.  Shoba De, Varun Varadharajan and the others are throwing stones at Tarun Tejpal and pronouncing harsh punishments on him.  Dilip Cherian, image consultant talks about the changing social norms.  The power games of men are being brought to the forefront.

Now this is exactly the reaction even the ones who are governed by instinct on Facebook walls and on the road would want.  Now I need to quickly add that I am not a pro rape person at all.  But then if a society comes harshly on a rapist and want him to pay the price then somewhere something is amiss.  For I believe that every man is a rapist or  adulterer.  These men and women who are talking about it in the studios yield much power and who knows what they are upto.  Well here is an instance, for some reason, the ‘victim’ has come out in the open and complained – this is a one off.  Iam sure there are many who have either submitted themselves to this (a pity) or are silenced by force or reward (much against their will)

If you ask me why I take an ambivalent stand on this I would tell you why.

1.  When a man or a woman is condemned by society to pay the price for an offence like rape the ones who cry for the blood do that primarily to cover their own flaws  and use the opportunity  to wash their own stains (in the mind or body) and come out sparkling clean in order to be beyond suspicion and its like building a protective wall.   Assume if they were to go soft on the rapist wont you term them as perverts and question their morality and put them under the watchlist?

2.  The woman was considered to be a slut and the people were chasing her with stones to stone her to death. She fell on the feet of Jesus who said “he that hath no sin let him cast the first stone”  And every single person with a stone in hand quit the scene.

3.  Its for the court of law to judge. ( so let the others abstain from passing judgements on the criminal and instead focus on the victim)

4.  When a man is down and out its easy to stomp him and finish him off.

However I am quite surprised at the fact that a guy whose work is to deal with words used force and power to ensnare a girl to fulfill his desires.  From the point yes he is guilty
